Director, Mission Assurance & Safety
As Director of Safety & Mission Assurance (S&MA), you will be responsible for the overall direction and implementation of all S&MA disciplines, ensuring consistency with corporate strategy, consistency of process across programs and projects, and customer satisfaction with the products and services provided. S&MA disciplines include Systems Safety, Reliability Engineering, Software Assurance, & Quality Assurance. You will oversee the implementation of S&MA practices and product development across the Application sector and the Unity Program. You will lead matrixed support teams to develop products such as hazard analysis, failure modes & effects analysis, and probabilistic risk assessments. The role is responsible for the safety review process to ensure designs and operations will have the highest likelihood of success while balancing cost & schedule impacts. You will also support programs that are high speed/high risk to programs that are human rated (Class A) programs.
Sierra Space-based in Louisville, CO with operations in Madison, WI, Durham, NC, Huntsville, AL, Houston, TX, and Kennedy Space Center, FL-designs and manufactures the Dream Chaser spaceplane and other advanced spacecraft, commercial space destinations, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers, and international organizations. Must Haves:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study
- Knowledge of NASA and/or DoD systems Safety and Reliability requirements, regulations and laws
- Experience effectively leading a team responsible for engineering and/or safety and mission assurance processes and procedures for complex systems, including workforce and budgets.
- Proven leadership abilities inclusive of successful change management, mentoring, career development, training, succession planning, holding people accountable, and conducting yearly reviews
- Mastery of the ability to drive innovative thinking, lead and inspire your team, instill collaboration, challenge status quo, manage complex situations, delegate authority, and demonstrate ability to adapt to dynamic situations
- Proven experience and skills in team building, time management, conflict resolution, communication, briefing, presentation, and strategic thinking
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to clearly express concepts in verbal and written forms
- Ability to navigate change and uncertainty, make defensible decisions in ambiguity and own those decisions
Preferred:
- Typically 10-12 years of relevant experience
- Higher-level degree may substitute for required education
- Demonstrated passion for ideation, intellectual curiosity, and innovation, as well as motivating others to act by creating a shared sense of vision or purpose
- Proven long-term and strategic perspective that extends beyond the immediate initiatives; visualizes and articulates a clear direction
- Team oriented with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense (Civilian), NASA/Civil or commercial space and/or US Military, with an understanding of defense, aerospace, intelligence, and adjacent markets

Estimated Starting Salary Range:
$186,100.35 - $279,150.52
Sierra Space offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
