The Company

Our client enables it's customers to deliver consistent, contextual, and relevant experiences to their customers regardless of channel or device throughout the entire customer journey. They work on real time customer analytics components, a data platform for analyzing customer interactions, contexts, and behaviors to create a continually evolving customer profile, aimed to drive insights and relevance into Customer Engagement and Commerce (CEC) application portfolio.  

The Role

The Technical Editor is responsible for editing technical and user information for both internal and external audiences to include (but not limited to) end-user and developer-oriented product documentation, web pages, and business documentation.

The Technical Editor works closely with technical writers and software developers to apply the principles of minimalist writing, topic-based writing, English, grammar, and content reuse strategies. The Technical Editor also works with members of other departments, such as Legal, Marketing, and Customer Experience to ensure the consistency and quality of product documentation.

The Responsibilities

  • Mentor technical writers and software developers to implement appropriate technical writing industry standards and company-specific standards 
  • Lead a community of practice to discuss and communicate styles and standards and guidelines for technical writers and non-technical writers who are authoring content
  • Provide on-going 1:1 training on English, technical writing and language best practices
  • Edit developer-oriented product documentation, web pages, business documentation, API documentation, architecture, conceptual documentation for a technical audience
  • Assist with the definition of HTML usage guidelines.
  • Assist with the design and architecture of all customer-facing documentation
  • Ensure product documentation meets quality standards
  • Work with the technical writers and product owners to ensure consistent and timely editing of documentation

The Requirements

  • BA or BS degree in English, Journalism, or related field
  • Native English speaker
  • Excellent verbal, writing, and communication skills
  • 5+ years’ experience as a technical editor in high tech software companies
  • Able to perform major rewriting of documents
  • Clear understanding of the software development process
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines
  • Familiar with DocPad or other HTML-based documentation solutions
  • Experience working with GitHub, Stash, Bamboo or similar tools
  • Must understand editing best practices and techniques
  • Experience working in a structured authoring environment
  • Project management experience
  • Experience editing documentation intended for software developers
