What’s one thing that would surprise people about your company?
I think people would be surprised by the opportunity team members have to voice their opinions and be heard. We do company-wide pulse surveys to better understand employee engagement, which always results in strategic initiatives to address areas of opportunity. What’s one trait all the members of your team share?
I think one trait that the entire company shares is a growth mindset. We have a culture of “owning your growth,” which a lot of team members do in a variety of ways. We take advantage of the learning and development opportunities OnDeck offers, like tuition reimbursement, leadership development and skills-building, as well as online learning tools that feature courses on company policies, skill development and more.
VP of Engineering John Silade said the developers on his team at Hotel Engine share a love of music, which they connect over often via dedicated internal channels. He said this quirk is emblematic of the energetic culture at the hotel booking solutions provider.
What’s one thing that would surprise people about your company?
We’re a young travel tech company with deep roots in the hospitality industry, but we have already established a large, global member-base. Because we just raised our Series A and aren’t located downtown, I think people are very surprised when they come to our office. They are struck by how many people work here, how energized everyone is and all that we’ve accomplished in almost five years.

We have a great culture and we all enjoy our time together. As we grow, we make sure that we hire people that we want to work with. We make time for team building and events to bring us closer. For example, our dev team has a surprising number of people who are musicians or who really love music, so we have dedicated channels where we share our different styles of music.

What’s one thing that would surprise people about your company?
Something that I think would surprise people about Zoom is how passionate we are about giving back. We are constantly encouraged to volunteer inside and outside of working hours. There are always opportunities to spend time at places like the Ronald McDonald house, participate in fundraising walks or clean up our city streets. We even make competitions out of which team can get the most volunteer hours in a quarter. I’ve never worked at or heard of a company focused so strongly on giving back.

What’s one trait all the members of your team share?
One trait everyone shares on our team is the eagerness to help. Everything at Zoom moves at a fast pace, and we are all willing to help each other out. You never have to hesitate in asking questions or asking for help. It is very common to see three or four people gathered at one desk, all working together on a project or solving a problem. I think this is true for my team and Zoom as a whole. It’s definitely an “everyone helping everyone succeed” culture.

What’s one thing that would surprise people about your company?
The one thing that surprised me the most about Freshworks is how approachable everyone is from the top down. I was initially blown away by how humble our CEO Girish Mathrubootham is. When meeting Girish, he shook my hand and introduced himself as employee No.1 and immediately wanted to get to know me better. I feel that everyone on the executive and management teams shares this same characteristic.
