The turn of the year is a time to look forward, but also to reflect on the year past. What would a montage of 2022’s highlights — and lowlights — contain? The start of a war in Ukraine, controversial Supreme Court decisions, an eventful midterm election cycle, achievements from NASA including a voyage around the moon and the deployment of the James Webb Space Telescope, and an especially exciting World Cup final are just a few of the topics that dominated headlines.

As with any other year, 2022 was full of moments we’ll never forget and a fair share of those we wish we could. A new year comes with new possibilities, challenges and opportunities, but in order to forge ahead, it’s helpful to understand the current landscape as it was laid in the year prior.

Eight Colorado-based companies made waves of their own last year. At simPRO Software Group, two new international offices solidified its global leadership position in trade business software, and the company’s executive team took paycuts to help employees receive inflationary pay increases. Meanwhile, Cin7 underwent an exciting period of significant companywide growth after investing in strategic partnerships and making improvements to products.

As 2023 heats up, Built In Colorado wanted to spotlight these companies, the insights their professionals shared in interviews last year and the perks and benefits that make them a special place to work for team members.

While they may not have been the subject of a national nightly news segment, they’ve earned their spot on January’s list of noteworthy companies.

What DELVE does: Adtech company Delve is an analytics-first media consultancy specializing in data-driven marketing science, digital marketing campaign management and web analytics.

A supportive company culture: For Kiana Nemoto, managing director of adtech platforms, finding solutions to complex challenges is not done alone. “I can reach out to any fellow Delver with an idea and confidently know they will respond with interest and likely a myriad of added ideas that can continue to be expanded on,” Nemoto told Built In Colorado in May 2022.

Work-life balance: Delve is a hybrid workplace where employees work from home two to three days a week. Alongside perks like half-day Fridays in the summer and short Fridays year-round, employees have the ability to create a finer work-life balance.

What Prove does: As a mobile and digital identity authentication leader, Prove helps companies create effortless customer experiences by instantly authenticating new user accounts.

In the news: Technical Lead Clay Gardner was initially drawn to Prove because of its mission to protect the average person’s financial transactions. “Everything we build has an impact on our customers and the success of the business,” said Gardner while speaking with Built In Colorado. “At previous jobs, I would worry about scale in terabytes, but at Prove, I think in terms of feature-set complexity.”

Great benefits: Prove offers its team members a wide range of invaluable benefits, including company-provided life insurance, short-term and long-term disability and parental leave. The “Provers” also receive unlimited vacation, flexible work schedules and a selection of health and welfare benefits to meet their personal and family needs.

What Matillion does: Matillion’s user-friendly, cloud-native data migration and transformation platform helps clients worldwide harness data to gain valuable insights.

Valuing team members: Matillion’s hybrid employees may be spread out around the globe, but its leaders are actively involved in their professional development and personal goals. “Every time I’ve mentioned a topic that I want to learn more about, my manager has given me tasks that benefit me in learning and my ability to better support customers,” said Kevin Healy, technical success manager.

Flexible hybrid work: Built In Colorado chatted with VP of People Vicki Marchington about Matillion’s approach to hybrid work, which is rooted in trusting employees to create a schedule that suits their own lives. “We hire grown-ups and want them to make their own decisions about what works for them,” said Marchington.

What simPRO Software Group does: Over 200,000 users look to simPRO Software Group for field service software solutions for project management, asset management, job management and more.

Employee empowerment: An authentic people-first culture involves more than words, it demands action. Inflation has been cause for concern worldwide; in response, simPRO’s executive team took pay cuts so employees could receive raises. The company’s dedication to employees is also evident in a $5,000 grant for travel-dependent medical procedures, including abortion.

Rebrand and expand: In 2022, simPRO rolled out over 25 releases and 74 features and improvements. But the company didn’t stop there. simPRO expanded its international presence, opening two new office locations in Singapore and the Netherlands. “Our new office locations in Singapore and the Netherlands represent strategic growth of the simPRO brand and cements our global leadership position in trade business software,'' said CEO Sean Diljore.

What Quantive does: Quantive, formerly known as Gtmhub, provides a strategy execution platform based on the objectives and key results management methodology.

The company’s evolution: In December 2022, the company announced its rebrand to Quantive along with key updates to its product offerings to establish a fresh approach to strategy execution. In its announcement, the company stated, “Our business has evolved from a sole focus on the OKR methodology to a more holistic platform that enables organizations to adopt the modern operating model they need to thrive in today’s business environment. As a global company that’s growing by the day, our new brand identity reflects where we’ve come from, what we’re doing today and our plans for growth in the future.”

Quantive’s culture: The Quantive team focuses on empowering its people to succeed through transparency, collaboration and trust. The company provides flexibility in where you work, when you work and how to go about achieving goals. By placing emphasis on outcomes over outputs, teams are enabled to think creatively and make work work for them. Team members are careful not call their team a family, as “Families are too often disconnected, dysfunctional or bonded by innate familial love, affection and unending loyalty,” said Mykaela Doane, head of people and talent, who spoke to Built In Colorado in August 2022. “At work, we're a team — we come together to do the best work of our lives. We have fun while we’re at it. And then we go home, to our actual families — functional, dysfunctional or otherwise.”

What Artifact Uprising does: Artifact Uprising is an e-commerce platform that connects customers to customizable photo goods for digital images.

Growth plans: As part of its mission to provide high-quality products so customers can capture memorable moments, Artifact Uprising entered 2022 with plans to grow its product, marketing and engineering teams. “Artifact Uprising is quickly expanding and adding innovative thinkers who are passionate about helping customers bring joy to their lives,” said People Operations Manager Alex Hield in an interview with Built In Colorado last year.

Professional development perks: Artifact Uprising gives employees the resources they need to continue growing. An annual individual budget for training as well as events like a yearly hackathon are just a couple of opportunities team members have to expand their knowledge bases and skill sets.

What Choozle does: Denver-based adtech company Choozle is a digital advertising software platform that leverages consumer data to power multimedia programmatic advertising campaigns in a single location.

Data-driven leads: Built In Colorado spoke to Sarah Lilly, a marketing and communications generalist at Choozle, to learn more about the ways data informs strategic decisions. “Providing consistent and valuable information to prospects through various channels has allowed us to stay top of mind when they need a solution,” said Lilly.

Prioritizing women: While women comprised approximately 40 percent of Choozle’s workforce in August 2022, the company is continuing its active pursuit of a more diverse workforce. Empowering women is a top priority at the company, and networking events for women in the industry and education stipends help attract and retain women in the office.

What Cin7 does: Cin7 is on a mission to simplify customer inventory management. The SaaS provider connects brands to an ecosystem of suppliers, sales channels, marketplaces and applications.

Rapid growth: When Talent Acquisition Manager Jessica DeRubbo spoke to Built In Colorado in July 2022, Cin7’s team was expected to grow by 30 to 50 percent in the next 12 months. “We’ve made immense improvements to our products, like our recent release of pre-built automation tech stacks to accelerate product-seller success,” said DeRubbo.

A focus on diversity: On Cin7’s senior team alone, eight nationalities are represented. This reflects the company’s highly diverse workforce. A significant number of those in leadership positions are women, and a documented equal-pay policy and a variety of diversity employee resource groups exemplify Cin7’s commitment to diversity and inclusion
