Through Someone Else’s Eyes
Spruce To Host First “Virtual Reality”-Inspired Haunted House in Denver--For Free
DENVER, October 09, 2015 - Imagine putting on a pair of video goggles and walking into an empty room; you see nothing but a video stream through your goggles, all from a security camera in the room. Think about what it would be like to walk around a room from that third person perspective. Now add a haunted house.
This Halloween weekend, Spruce co-owners Becca and Taylor Romero are shutting down their men’s clothier & barber shop to transform their cozy retail space into Denver’s first “virtual reality”-inspired haunted house. The premise is simple: like previously stated, attendees will be given video goggles and see only a stream of the room in third person. They will have to retrieve a key from the other side of the house and bring it back...but they have to go in alone. On its face, a solo trip seems daunting, but otherwise harmless, that is, until these two Halloween veterans bring the “haunted house” piece to life inside.
“Halloween is our favorite holiday,” says Taylor. “We’ve known since we opened Spruce that we wanted to use the space and really blow it out this year for Halloween--do something completely different that would combine our tech focus with how much we love the holiday.” The retail space has gained a reputation for not only being a completely unique concept, combining both men’s fashion and men’s grooming under one roof, but also for its tech innovation, particularly in the world of the Internet of Things. Appointments are booked on a mobile device, iPads are used in-store for everything from dressing room lighting changes to shoe inventory searches, and the shop boasts a sign with real-time wait times for grooming appointments. Now they’re taking the technology piece a step further, integrating it into a very new and unique haunted house concept.
This “virtual reality”-inspired haunted house may be the first of its kind in Denver, and is sure to be a one-of-a-kind experience...and it’s free! Spruce will be shutting down their normal retail and barber operations in lieu of the haunted house on Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1 starting at noon. Appointments can be made through the same mobile booking system used to schedule style and grooming appointments; you can reserve your solo haunted house journey by visiting https://www.spruce.me on your mobile device or by texting 303-622-3310.
