Job Summary

The Benefits Manager - North America is responsible for leading the design, development, and delivery of the benefits strategy to support the attraction, retention, and engagement of employees in North America, specifically in the United States and Canada. This role involves evaluating, developing, implementing, and administering cost-effective benefits programs, including health and welfare, retirement, time off, and work/life programs. The Benefits Manager - North America also plays a crucial role in educating North America employees about Workiva's benefit offerings and ensuring ongoing legal compliance. Additionally, this position is accountable for overseeing the financial aspects of Workiva's benefit programs in North America.

What You’ll Do

  • Oversees all aspects of designing and administering benefit programs in North America, encompassing health, retirement, life, disability, time off, wellbeing, and accommodation requests

  • Manages annual renewals in North America, including ownership of U.S. open enrollment (OE), planning and executing OE processes in Workday, recommending benefit enhancements and cost-sharing adjustments to leadership, and coordinating employee communications

  • Ensures compliance with state and federal leave laws by managing all types of leave of absence in North America

  • Processes accommodation requests for disabilities, applying federal and state laws accordingly

  • Handles compliance requirements such as ERISA, FMLA, COBRA, HIPAA, ADA, Form 5500 filings, SAR filings, RxDC filing, 1095/1094 form creation, Workers Compensation, OSHA, nondiscrimination testing, and audits

  • Reviews and enhances current benefit offerings for competitiveness, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with industry standards

  • Ensures fairness, inclusivity, effectiveness, and compliance in benefit programs.

  • Collaborates with Finance and Total Rewards team leaders to assess the financial impact of program changes and prepares cost and contribution scenarios

  • Develops and executes communication strategies to effectively promote and educate employees, candidates, and family members about benefit offerings

  • Engages with external vendors, brokers, and consultants to negotiate contracts, monitor performance, and optimize benefit investments

  • Prepares presentations for Executive Benefits Committee meetings

What You’ll NeedEducation

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience 

  • 6+ years of experience in employee benefits administration 

  • Project management experience in a business setting required 

  • Proficiency with Human Resources Information System (HRIS) required, Workday experience preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive understanding of benefits, leave, and accommodation regulations in North America, specifically United States and Canada

  • Proven experience managing benefits programs across multiple countries and locations.

  • Demonstrated experience resolving complex benefit and leave-related issues

  • Proficiency in navigating self-funded group insurance plans, including plan documents and summary plan descriptions

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and apply independent judgment in accordance with laws, regulations, policies, administrative rules, and procedures

  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational, analytical, and reporting skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; proficient at developing relationships with employees and all levels of management with demonstrated ability to be a trusted resource

  • Drives collaboration with the ability to bring together stakeholders to develop effective solutions

  • Capable of managing concurrent assignments with varying priorities and deadlines

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements 

  • Travel- less than 15%

  • Reliable internet access for any period of time working remotely, not in a Workiva office.

 

How You’ll Be Rewarded

Salary range in the US: $101,000.00 - $172,000.00

A discretionary bonus typically paid annually

Restricted Stock Units granted at time of hire

401(k) match and comprehensive employee benefits package

The salary range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this job in the US. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and other relevant factors.
