In this role, you will play an integral part in protecting our Gusto and our small business customers as a member of our Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) Investigations team. Tackling the engaging day-to-day work of EDD investigations and Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) reporting, you can lend your skills in building a safe Gusto Your expertise will be instrumental in developing and implementing new processes and systems as we continue to build a sustainable and scalable compliance program
Here's what you'll do day-to-day:
- Conduct EDD reviews for high risk customers in accordance with established procedures
- Investigate and escalate high risk customer activity for potential sanctions violations, money laundering, and reputational risks
- Review customer submitted documentation and correspondence
- Draft clear and concise unusual activity referrals, suspicious activity reports, and other written documentation to summarize risk concerns
- Review and investigate alert escalations (name screening for negative news, politically exposed persons, marijuana related businesses, and potential sanctions hits)
- Support cross functional partners including sales and engagement teams, regarding customer identification, onboarding, and appropriate industry/risk classification
- Make recommendations for closing account relationships to the appropriate manager
- Suggest process enhancements to increase efficiency and/or accuracy
- Assist with the development of enhanced desktop procedures
Here's what we're looking for:
- 2+ years experience conducting enhanced due diligence reviews, AML or targeted investigations
- Strong writing skills and the ability to clearly summarize complex fact patterns
- Exemplary research, analytical, multitasking, transactional and problem-solving skills
- Ability to deescalate upset customers and clearly communicate compliance requirements
- An insatiable appetite for problem solving, knack for structured thinking, ability to spot unusual patterns, and sharp attention to detail.
- Driven by a strong moral compass, is objective yet compassionate, and does the right thing every time.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to handle multiple projects/tasks simultaneously. Is extremely process and policy oriented.
- Goal-oriented, positive, and proactive. Comfortable in a fast-paced, results-oriented work environment. Communicates well with others.
- Strong organizational and communication skills. Maintains clear documentation and utilizes strong written communication techniques.

This is a hybrid position, where you are required to be in the Gusto office (Denver, SF, NYC) at a minimum of two days per week. This is not a remote position.
Our cash compensation amount for this role is $75,000 - $86,000 per year in Denver, and $94,000 - $108,000 per year for San Francisco & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate location, experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.
Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.
When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.

Gusto's Denver office is located right off of the 16th Street Mall, a pedestrian-friendly area packed with shopping, restaurants, and attractions. Many Gusties take RTD transit, while others bike and drive in to the office.
