Summary:
The Denver Post is seeking a well-rounded reporter to cover Denver city hall on its politics and public affairs team. Candidates must be self-starters and able to handle a range of topics, from the workings of local government to the impact of policy on residents and communities. There will be a heavy dose of political intrigue, from battles between the mayor and the City Council to the liberal city’s conflicts with the incoming Trump administration. We care about hot topics as well as the nuts and bolts, including whether trash and recycling is being picked up on time. Our ideal candidate has at least five years of reporting experience, including time covering local government, and a demonstrated ability to see the bigger picture, turn breaking news stories quickly, extract scoops from sources and develop deeper enterprise pieces. The ability to work on multiple projects at the same time, while also developing sources, is a must. It’s a plus if you’re experienced with the use of public records laws in your reporting and able to analyze data to find hidden stories.
