About the Opportunity
As a Software Engineer on Contentful’s Marketplace Ecosystem team, you will play a vital role in enhancing and supporting our App Marketplace and App Framework, enabling impactful extensibility for both internal and external developers.
In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain the App Marketplace, including building in-house apps, improving external developer contributions with a focus on security, and enhancing the app framework. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and address the needs and challenges of our customers and partners, working toward solutions that improve productivity and satisfaction. Your expertise in creating seamless, intuitive developer experiences will directly contribute to Contentful’s growth and customer engagement.
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about building innovative solutions, optimizing processes, and improving scalability while balancing strategic thinking with effective problem-solving. Experience with modern full-stack development trends, tooling, and maintaining public open-source libraries is beneficial.
This is a hybrid opportunity with 2 days in-office at our Denver hub.
What to expect?
App Marketplace:
- Design, plan, and build improvements to the Contentful App Marketplace, from usability and developer experience to security hardening to accessibility.
- Find process improvements and technical solutions to external contributions, reducing friction to contribution without concessions to security and user confidence.
- Design and implement strategies that improve Contentful’s developer user experience.
- Build tools and frameworks that streamline the end-to-end development process.
- Identify and develop product enhancements to maximize the platform’s extensibility.
- Collaborate with UX/UI designers to create intuitive and user-friendly interfaces for developer products.
App Framework:
- Contribute to the development and improvement of tools that allow apps to customize Contentful to meet user and business needs through the App Framework.
- Actively engage with feedback from internal teams and external developers to identify and implement enhancements to the App Framework.
- Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure our tools and SDKs stay up-to-date and continue to offer an outstanding developer experience.
Customer Empathy:
- Have an understanding of the struggles our customers face and help inform the team’s work and priorities.
- Monitor and respond to Contentful’s existing and prospective customers to obtain feedback, help drive the product vision, and find areas of opportunity and innovation.
What You Need to be Successful
- Enjoy building high-quality products and services using TypeScript, Node.js, and React.
- Knowledgeable about modern front-end frameworks and tools and can thoughtfully advocate for their use while understanding when it’s best to maintain existing solutions.
- Have experience and interest in software infrastructure and tooling, such as AWS, Terraform, and Kubernetes.
- Have software development experience including personal projects, internships projects, school projects, or professional projects
- Communicate effectively and is passionate about collaboration, pair programming, and mentoring others.
- Excitement about collaborating with a broader engineering organization across multiple time zones and handling asynchronous communication.
- Curious about AI and interested in how it can be thoughtfully integrated into our platform to better serve customers.

This role will need to be conducted in a state in which we are currently registered to do business.
Colorado Salary Statement: The salary range displayed is specifically for those potential hires who will work or reside in the state of Colorado if selected for the role. Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data/ranges, applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications (e.g. JD/technology), for example.
Colorado Salary Range: $118,000 - $156,000
[This position is eligible for equity awards in accordance with the terms of Contentful’s equity plans.]
