Shields Health Solutions is hiring a Data Software Engineer to help grow and evolve ETL and data management in the Engineering team. Engineering integrates partner and reference data daily to drive Shields' Legendary Care model for helping patients and hospitals benefit the most from specialty pharmaceuticals. As a result, this opportunity is the starting point for positive patient outcomes and increased resources for hospitals.

The role involves regular collaboration with end-users, analysts, devOps, and other engineers.  Creative approaches and knowledge transfer have created a tightly-knit, collegial team. The ideal candidate will have a background working in environments that receive various data feeds using APIs and/or flat-files and that perform necessary transformations to load data into a PostgreSQL RDBMS ecosystem. Useful experience includes but is not limited to data warehousing,  machine learning, reporting, and nightly batch processing.

Engineering uses certain technologies daily and hands-on experience in the following is essential:

  • Java (Springboot and Hibernate)
  • SQL (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or other RDBMS)
  • PL/pgSQL
  • Bash/Linux
  • Python (Pandas preferred)

Knowledge of any of the following either professionally or academically is a BIG plus:

  • ReactJS
  • Apache Spark
  • Informatica/Talend
  • Git/Bitbucket or other source code control
  • Production Scheduling - crontab, Airflow

Engineering is Agile and regularly deploys code according to established SDLC principles in a HIPAA regulated business.  Consideration will be given to knowledge/experience with:

  • HIPAA-compliant data management of PHI
  • Pharmaceutical data structures (HL7 and FHIR)
  • Atlassian Jira
  • Atlassian Confluence

Experience/ Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required with major course work in computer science, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years Application Development involving RDBMS backend
  • 3+ years working in an enterprise-grade production environment for SDLC deployments and issue support.
