Electrical engineers at Sierra Space research, design, develop, test, certify, deploy and improve cutting edge products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You'll conceptualize and design new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle from analog and digital electronic circuit card assemblies to fully integrated systems.

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer having background in EMI/EMC hardware analyses and test.
To apply, you should be an engineer with extensive experience in performing EMI/EMC assessment of hardware.
You should also be able to demonstrate through work experience that you are able to manage complex technical projects with multiple participants and stakeholders.
You will be part of a multi-disciplined team providing engineering support services to the Design and Manufacturing organizations at Sierra Space. We are seeking an individual with ability and willingness to be a subject matter expert in the EMI/EMC technical area. In this challenging, fast-paced environment, you'll have the opportunity to apply your knowledge and experience to design and create the most groundbreaking space technologies - those that exist today and those that will shape tomorrow. At Sierra Space we are not only the creator of the Dream Chaser® spacecraft, but also the designer and manufacturer of rocket engines and components, systems that sustain life in LEO as well as deep space, as well as systems and satellites that improve life here on Earth.
The EMC Engineer will evaluate customer requirements to determine their applicability to the hardware.
Based upon how hardware operates in the system, they will develop verification strategies to evaluate proposed hardware design solutions and assess compliance to EMC design criteria.
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate across the program design teams, system engineering, test, and manufacturing personnel to implement designs that meet electromagnetic compatibility requirements.
  • Create EMC control plan and requirements for the given systems, sub-systems, and components.
  • Oversee the implementation of RF and self-compatibility requirements in addition to EMC requirements.
  • Provide interpretation of requirements to design teams and evaluate product designs to ensure compliance.
  • Develop test strategies for EMC verification, generate test documentation, oversee test activities, perform and or monitor testing and generate test reports.
  • Coordinate with suppliers for design and test activities, review supplier documentation and processes.
  • Author technical and engineering memos as required.
  • Originate or maintain current specifications, control documents, verification and validation plans, procedures, reports, or other documentation in support of design and development activities.
  • Delivery of formal presentations to upper management or customers on EMC


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or other related discipline and typically 10 or more years of relevant experience
  • Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of required education
  • Expert knowledge of engineering principles and practices
  • Comprehensive understanding of Computer Aided Engineering tools
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
  • Willingness and ability to obtain US government DoD security clearance


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Significant experience in performance of EMI/EMC analyses and testing - Must be familiar with EMC test requirements, test methods and setup/performance of testing.
  • Project management experience - project definition, planning and implementation. i.e. be able to clearly demonstrate the ability to decompose large complicated problems into manageable pieces, understand problems from different points of view, and explain issues/solutions to other engineers and management.
  • Prior experience in the Aerospace and Defense Industry
  • Extensive knowledge of requirements and test methods to meet MIL-STD-461.
  • Previous experience and skills in project definition, simulation, implementation, lab integration and test
  • Strong propensity for system-level thinking
  • An ability to understand wide-reaching impacts of decisions across the system.
  • Ability to decompose large, complicated problems into manageable pieces, understand problems from different points of view, and explain issues/solutions to other engineers and management.
  • Proficiency with simulations through functional and logical models and system analysis
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry
  • Experience composing and analyzing Electrical Load Analysis (ELA), circuit modeling, simulation, and analysis
  • Familiarity with design requirements related to High Intensity Radiated Field (HIRF) and Indirect Effects of Lightning (IEL)
  • Knowledge of industry-standard electrical design principles, to include, but not limited to model-based definition, electrical component selection, manufacturing, and production processes
  • Understanding of Electro Magnetic Effects (EME) to include, Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI)
  • Experience in digital or analog circuit design and schematic capture
  • Understanding of the printed circuit board layout process and tools
  • Active US government DoD Security clearance


Physical/Mental/Emotional Requirements:

  • Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps
  • Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity
  • Rarely lifting or carrying up to 20 lbs.


Working Conditions:

  • Rarely exposed to outdoor elements (high/low temperatures, sun, rain/snow, etc.)
  • Rarely exposed to fumes or hazardous chemicals/materials
  • Rarely exposed to loud noises

Estimated Starting Salary Range:
$120,552.10 - $165,759.14
