About Gusto

Gusto is a modern, online people platform that helps small businesses take care of their teams. On top of full-service payroll, Gusto offers health insurance, 401(k)s, expert HR, and team management tools. Today, Gusto offices in Denver, San Francisco, and New York serve more than 300,000 businesses nationwide.

Our mission is to create a world where work empowers a better life, and it starts right here at Gusto. That’s why we’re committed to building a collaborative and inclusive workplace, both physically and virtually. Learn more about our Total Rewards philosophy

About the Role:

Gusto is in search of an experienced leader to oversee and grow our Entity Management products. Small businesses often need help with ongoing government registrations and compliance, particularly during startup and operational changes. Managing complex, evolving requirements is time-consuming, carries a high risk of costly fines, and distracts entrepreneurs from core business activities. While Gusto has a foot in this space today in helping customers with State Tax Registration, we are tripling down to deliver comprehensive support across the end-to-end lifecycle of an entrepreneur – from incorporation through ongoing filings, account monitoring, and closures. We are seeking the right leader to build this product suite and business from the ground up.

About the Team:

As a senior member of the product leadership team and founding member of our Entity Management team, you will be responsible for setting the vision & strategy, forming the team, and assume responsibility for the business overall. This will require strong partnerships with go-to-market teams to evaluate buy/build/partner options, determine our merchandising strategy, and ultimately drive growth for the business. You will also partner closely with our service and operations teams to stand up a new team and set of customer workflows around Compliance Ops.

If you are a customer-centric builder with a mind for operations who thrives on making a substantial impact within a high-growth organization, we would be thrilled to hear from you!

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Lead Gusto’s Entity Management app, including the recruitment, hiring, and empowerment of a world-class R&D team
  • Take ownership of the product and business from end to end. In addition to guiding the product development team, you will collaborate closely with 3rd party partners, operations, and service teams to ensure a seamless and fully functional customer experience.
  • Drive growth of the business, partnering closely with our go-to-market teams to set the go-to-market strategy (inclusive of how we monetize and package our products)
  • Set and execute a multi-year product vision and strategy for Gusto’s Entity Management offerings; develop and drive the product roadmap.
  • Understand customer pain points, devise solutions, and then iterate through execution.

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • 10+ years of hands-on product development leadership and General Manager (GM) experience within an R&D team in a modern technology business
  • Proven track record of building products customers love at scale
  • Display strategic solid thinking skills, capable of evaluating multiple paths, making effective tradeoffs, and articulating a clear and compelling forward plan.
  • Demonstrated experience building products within a 1st and 3rd party ecosystem
  • The ability to tell a compelling story that drives alignment and inspires action
  • Strong collaboration skills; ability to quickly build trust with a demonstrated ability to drive impact and influence across multiple organizations such as Sales, Marketing, and Operations
  • Excel as a team leader who inspires others to follow with excellence in mentorship, people leadership, and recruiting capabilities
  • The intangibles: Natural curiosity, grit, customer obsession, and attention to detail.

At Gusto, we strive to provide rewards that empower employees to achieve their financial and personal goals. We offer competitive compensation packages with a strong emphasis on equity-based compensation (ownership in Gusto). To learn more about Gusto’s compensation philosophy and benefits offerings, please view our Total Rewards Approach page.

Our cash compensation range for this role is $214,000/yr to $246,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $245000/yr to $291,000/yr in San Francisco, Seattle & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.

Our customers come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds, not just because it's the right thing to do, but because it makes our company stronger. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for small businesses, you will find a home at Gusto.
