Why Flock?

There are 17 million Americans who own rental property. Most don't want to be landlords anymore, but selling isn’t a good option. Why? You’d lose income and appreciation, trigger taxes, kick out your tenants, fix up the house, and list it. There’s a lot of friction and hassle, and Flock is here to help.

Flock’s mission is to provide every retiring landlord with the most flexible and reliable exit. We’re a financial services business focused on the millions of Americans who no longer want to own rental property but don’t want to sell. Our first product is a 721 Exchange for Single Family Rental landlords — we exchange individually owned properties for shares in our Fund. Over time, we’ll do this for other types of real estate, other Funds, and offer landlords other tax-efficient exits. We’re fortunate to be backed by a great group of venture capital firms, including Andreessen Horowitz, Human Capital, Susa Ventures, Box Group, and Primary Venture Partners, as well as a large network of strategic investors, including 1Sharpe Ventures, Redwood Trust (NYSE: RWT), and the former CEOs of Invitation Homes and Opendoor.

The Position

In this role, you will serve as the right hand to the CEO, driving strategic initiatives across operations, HR, and finance. Your mission will be to streamline internal processes, optimize team performance, and help scale Flock as we enter our next phase of growth. This role requires a strong, assertive leader who is not afraid to push back on the CEO and other managers to ensure KPIs and incentives are aligned with business goals. We need a people oriented individual who can drive results, challenge assumptions, and enforce accountability while fostering operational excellence.

Responsibilities

Operations

  • Oversee company-wide performance metrics, including KPIs for teams, verticals, and individuals, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Hold leaders accountable for meeting goals, making data-driven decisions, and adhering to agreed-upon strategic priorities.
  • Lead monthly "all hands" meetings to align the company’s key updates and initiatives.
  • Work on process efficiency and cost-cutting measures while unlocking human potential.
  • Ensure alignment with Flock's core values: Ownership, Trust, and Sense of Urgency.

Human Resources

  • Lead quarterly performance bands, bi-annual compensation reviews, and leveling processes, ensuring objective and strategic decision-making.
  • Own the employee onboarding experience and company handbook.
  • Develop and execute PIPs (Performance Improvement Plans) as needed, working with leadership to address performance gaps.
  • Implement HR best practices to enhance team efficiency and culture, while ensuring all managers uphold accountability within their teams.

Finance & Strategy

  • Drive financial forecasting and strategic planning in collaboration with leadership.
  • Develop and monitor KPIs to ensure company growth and efficiency.
  • Manage financial reporting and board materials, ensuring key stakeholders have clear, data driven insights into company performance.
  • Push back when necessary to ensure that financial goals and strategic plans remain aligned with the company’s long-term vision.

Cross-functional Leadership

  • Serve as a thought partner to the CEO, ensuring strategic initiatives are executed effectively and challenged where necessary.
  • Collaborate with sales and CS teams to align operational goals with revenue objectives.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be tough and firm in decision-making, enforcing key initiatives while maintaining strong relationships with leadership and teams.

Qualifications

  • A genuine passion for working in fast-moving startup ecosystems.
  • Strong operations-oriented professional experience and solid financial skill set.
  • Background in investment banking or consulting.
  • You have strong analytical and problem solving skills developed in a high-performance environment.
  • Strategic mindset with executional excellence: You can think big picture while also rolling up your sleeves to get things done.
  • Proven ability to partner directly with C-suite executives, providing strategic guidance and operational support to maximize efficiency, drive decision-making, and execute on key initiatives.
  • A track record of successfully managing complex, cross-functional programs and projects with high visibility, often involving senior stakeholders, and consistently delivering impactful results.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and streamline workflows, improve processes, and introduce operational best practices in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
  • A natural talent for building and maintaining authentic relationships, fostering collaboration, and driving alignment across diverse groups of people with varying perspectives and goals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate needs, and provide actionable recommendations to leadership.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, paired with outstanding communication, and relationship management skills.
  • Proven ability to scale operations efficiently without sacrificing quality.
  • People-first leadership approach: You can engage and motivate teams, making sure employees feel supported while holding them accountable.

Details

  • Compensation: The annual salary for this role is $180-280K, with target equity and benefits (including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
  • Location: NYC, SF, or Denver
